SLAB CITY & SALVATION MOUNTAIN
New Year’s 2012
This is an encampment/community on a deserted military installation—just south of Salton Sea. It’s residence to numerous makeshift homes, trailers, RVs, and campers. Some of the “properties” even have address numbers painted on 4’x8’ plywood to let the delivery trucks (we saw UPS and Fedex) know where to deliver!

FORENSIC BOTANY: INDIGENOUS PLANTS OF OAXACA, MEXICO
By: Lesha Maria Rodriguez
I was very pleased to see this show come, and develop. I’m sad to see it go so quickly. Fortunately, it’s an ongoing project—and I look forward to seeing it develop, grow, and be shown again ;)

@LACMA for the closing weekend of In Wonderland: The Surrealist Adventures of Women Artists in Mexico and the United States

Finally sorted out the photos from the October, Death Valley trip. These few are from Saline Valley and Warm Springs. @NPCA

PAPERPLANES - GEORGIA - LIVE @LONG BEACH ROLLER DERBY
FIlmed my friend’s band again, but this time they were the performers at the Long Beach Roller Derby on Veteran’s Day 11.11.11.

Sick and stuck at home all weekend could totally suck! I missed a great bday bash too. Fortunately though, my OCDness keeps me occupied (occupy home) and always working on a project or two. Thanks to OCD, I put this together for the Long Beach band, Paperplanes.

MY MORNING JACKET - WONDERFUL (THE WAY I FEEL) MUSIC VIDEO
Shot on a recent camping trip in Death Valley National Park this October.

Death Valley is definitely my “local” favorite camp spot: So much history and amazing sites to explore; I’ve never been there and thought it to be crowded (like a lot of National Parks tend to be). I think Death Valley is underrated. Most people don’t wander into the interior that’s accessible to 4WD (mostly). The park yields adventure and exploring of antique salt trams inside Saline Valley—and abandoned talc mines littered throughout the interior are living, preserved relics of America’s manifest destiny.

Most are satisfied just gawking the night sky (nearly pitch black horizons)—littered with galaxies/seemingly endless stars; I saw ten shooting stars on our second night. Camping the wilderness areas transcend the usual campfire getaway. You can literally have complete solitude & silence for days and nights—accompanied by profound sunrises and sunsets… the best I’ve ever experienced.

This was a fun & creative packaging design project—finished recently. Fun & creative doesn’t come often in the commercial world.

Two color lithography printing on sustainable craft paper was a challenge.
